Should You Use Weight Lifting Belts?

Lifting belts act to increase intraabdominal pressure (IAP) which helps increase core stability (Harman et al., 1989). Lifting belts also don't weaken the core at heavy loads (Escamilla et al., 2002) however learning to brace your core properly without a belt first is vital

Lifting belts also allow you to lift roughly 10-15% more weight & perform more reps at a given weight. This increase in intensity and volume may lead to greater increases in strength & hypertrophy (mechanical tension- Schoenfeld, 2012)

Lifting belts are a handy training tool, but can be expensive and aren't necessary. Nonetheless, if you are interested in buying one, learn to brace your core properly before buckling up
